Black Hawk Down is a technically brilliant movie with a bunch of disturbing subtexts and implications. At the risk of hyperbole, I would describe it as "Riefenstahlian". I'm glad CNN readers had that brought to their attention.

Correct. I was offended by the fact that you don't even get introduced to the characters before they're turned into exploding chunks of meat. I said it was a snuff film that people feel compelled to salute. It was a con job, and boy, did the con ever work. You could have zero understanding of the conflict - the movie does little to help you there - but still sit there and groove to the blood and guts. Plus, it's blatantly racist. I just think it's foul.

You were great at fan service though! I wrote you in 1997 and started a email correspondence and then met in person. I remember when you told me (and my wife) that you had just met a woman named Jill that you were very excited about. Good times.

Well, this really gets my space hackles up. Any critic, whose estimation of films in accuracy it is diametrical mine, me too would arrange. May I mambo dogface to the banana patch?
